Self-assignable roles
Depending on your age, gender, and other details, you may want to seek advice from certain kinds of people. We created roles that you can assign to yourself to make it easier for you to find them. You may then use certain commands to find out who has a specific role if they have done the same. This is done via the Nadeko bot.
Note that the roles are divided into groups. Nadeko allows you to assign only one from each. This was made so to prevent you from being able to have, for example, the *male* and *female* roles at the same time.
It's not mandatory for any member to self-assign any roles.
What roles are there?
How can I assign a role to myself?
Go to #bot-commands and type .iam role. For example:
.iam 18-25
This will prompt Nadeko to assign you the 18-25 role.
How can I find out who has a specific role?
Go to #bot-commands and type .inrole role. For example:
.inrole 18-25
This will prompt Nadeko to show you who has the 18-25 role.

Remember to follow the #rules about DMing other members of the server.
If you would like to suggest more role groups, do so at #suggestions.

DMs ON/DMs OFF
If a member has assigned themselves the _DMs OFF_ role, no other member is allowed to send them DMs, even if they have DMs enabled. If you were DMed despite having assigned yourself that role, contact us moderators and we'll pursue disciplinary action. Make sure to check if the member you want to DM has this role or not. If the member has no role, ask them before you DM them.
Bonus roles
These roles have no particular use other than to let other members of the server know what your interests are. There's a bonus role for each bonus channel.
DO NOT ASSIGN YOURSELF THESE ROLES WITH THE Nadeko BOT. USE MEE6 INSTEAD. INSTRUCTIONS:
Use the command !sub-role. Example:
!sub-gaming
This will prompt MEE6 to assign you the gaming role.
Use !unsub-role to revoke a role.
If you'd like to suggest a new bonus role/channel, do so under #suggestions. You need at least 10 thumbs up reactions before a new bonus role/channel will be added, to make sure that there are enough people interested. Of course, you're free to advertise your idea to the members, but don't abuse it.
You can still use Nadeko to see who has these roles (refer to previous section).

Leveling up
When you first visit our server, you have no roles. You start out with level 0 and 0 experience points (xp) on the MEE6 bot's level system. As you participate (write text posts), you gain xp. Once you gain a certain amount, you advance a level. At level 1, you receive the acquaintances role. At level 10 you are awarded the friends role, which will enable you to change your nickname and to use reactions. At level 20, you'll be awarded the lovers role, which enable you to attach files and embed links as well. Finally, at level 30, you'll be awarded the soulmates role, which will enable you to use external emoji.
How is any of this useful, you ask? Very simple. For once, it helps new members, who just want to get advice, filter out the more active (and probably more experienced) users from the less active ones. Second, it also helps us, the moderators, to keep an eye on potential candidates who might join the team or become mentors someday in the future. It's also a great incentive to participate. You will know that these people are active and trustworthy, and maybe you'll make great long-term friends here. That's our hope, anyway.
Go to #bot-commands and type !rank to check your level or type !levels to get a link where you can see a full list.

The mentors role and the #request-mentors channel
If you want more serious advice from more mature members of the server, then the mentors can help you out. All you need to do is to go to #request-mentor and mention the mentors role. If a mentor is available, you can then move to an advice channel to talk to them. Note that all moderators are mentors as well.
The mentor role is invitation-only, meaning that the staff of the server will occasionally ask mature members, who have had a positive track record of participation on the server if they'd like to become mentors. A mentor may also delete text messages and kick members from the voice chat, so they are a sort of "minor moderator." They can also post pictures, embed links, attach files, and add reactions. They cannot change other member's nicknames, kick them or ban them. The difference between a mentor and a moderator is that a moderator is part of the staff of the server and has a say in how it's managed, whereas a mentor does not.
